The Couple Next Door was actually recommended to me by customer and I listened because customer service. She told me that she finished the book in a day and that’s the usual hallmark of greatness. This book has enough twists and turns for you to sue Shari Lapena for whiplash (good thing she’s a lawyer).
I can always appreciate when an author has a background in criminal justice because the attention to detail is on point and that satisfies something deep within my soul.
This book is another addition to the growing list of thrillers written by lady authors, which has been a bandwagon I happily boarded. Basically, you’ve got Anne and Marco being cute and living in New York with their newborn daughter, Cora. They pop over to their neighbour’s house (could this be THE couple next door?!) for a birthday dinner and return in the early morning to find that a crime has been committed! As per usual, everybody has secrets and no one is reliable.
Now, writing-wise, this is not the best book I have ever read. I do not feel changed in any way, but I did enjoy myself and sometimes that’s exactly what the doctor librarian ordered. So, if you’re looking for something to casually read on the beach or in a snow bank, then you should definitely pick up a copy of The Couple Next Door.
